Last night, former FBI director James Comey participated in a town hall with Anderson Cooper. It was as unremarkable as his book but one thing of note peaked my interest was Comey’s assertion that Trump has an above average intelligence. The only logical deduction anyone could make from such an assertion is that Jim Comey is among a plethora of stupid white men who sit in seats of inscrutable power.
If we were to put Comey to the question and asked for any evidence for his assertion, it’s be like finding a lake in the Nafud desert.
Trump’s flat imbecility is legend at this point. From saying that Frederick Douglas was doing “fine work that people are appreciating more and more” to saying he saw thousands of Muslims cheering after the “7/11” attacks, the fatuous nincompoopery of this epic bungler does not even include his inability to read a teleprompter. If stupidity were a crime, he’d get a life sentence for only saying this.
Today, Mr. I-know-more-about-ISIS-than-the-generals-do clumsily called up Fox&Friends to give them a 27-minute unhinged rant which proved he is either suffering from geriatric playboy dementia or sheer lunacy. You might remember that the unctuous doofus said on Air Force One that he knew nothing about the settlement agreement his lawyer Michael Cohen made with Stephanie Clifford. Today he said aloud, “Michael represents me on this silly Stormy thing.” He also admitted that Cohen doesn’t do much legal work for him.
At this point, Miss Clifford’s attorney Michael Avenatti could no longer contain his glee.
Mr. Trump and Mr. Cohen previously represented to the American people that Mr. Cohen acted on his own and Mr. Trump knew nothing about the agreement with my client, the $130k payment, etc. As I predicted, that has now been shown to be completely false. #basta

Thank you @foxandfriends for having Mr. Trump on this morning to discuss Michael Cohen and our case. Very informative.

Not only did Trump lie about not knowing about the settlement with Miss Clifford, he most certainly will have to be deposed by Mr. Avenatti in which he will be forced to invoke his 5th amendment privilege. Just to refresh your recollection of what Trump thinks of the 5th amendment, here’s a recap of his sentiments.
There is no need to point out the truly epic and flagrant hypocrisy of this perfectly designed imbecile but it would be wrong not to. When the founding fathers put “high crimes and misdemeanors” into the constitution, the misdemeanors meant a president who deliberately lied to the people was worthy of impeachment. At this point, we are into major felonies.
A truly innocent man would not have to assault his own attorney general nor his own FBI director with endless protestations about how corrupt they are. A truly innocent man who has nothing to hide, would praise someone like Robert Mueller who is extraordinarily competent. Mueller is the greatest FBI director we’ve ever had, full stop. If Trump were truly innocent, he would have absolute confidence that Mueller would prove him innocent. As completely divorced from reality as Trump is, he is simply not that delusional to think Mueller won’t find anything. He knows what Mueller will find and like a cornered honey badger, he’s going to do anything to make his cask of deplorables think Mueller is corrupt.
Trump has no functional comprehension of how our government works. He believes the Justice Department is there to protect him. Perhaps he thought he was going to lose anyway and running for president would help his business. The end result of his idiocy is that he walked into several impeachable offenses. To add insult to injury, he has also opened himself up to legal peril that not even that crook Nixon would face. Of course dunce Pence will pull a Gerold Ford and spend the rest of his life apologizing for his crime but even a federal pardon will not stop the many felonies he committed in New York. He thought he could do what he’s always done and bullshit his way through a civil proceeding.
He’s been wildly successful with that method. Trump University took in an estimated $65 million and he only had to pay $25 million back. He didn’t care that he is the only president to admit to defrauding thousands of people, he’d been doing that for decades. He never cared about the damage his many bankruptcies caused the poor schlubs who were suckered by Trump.
Those of us who have studied history are even more amazed by the prescient musings of HL Mencken than even George Orwell.
“But when a candidate for public office faces the voters he does not face men of sense; he faces a mob of men whose chief distinguishing mark is the fact that they are quite incapable of weighing ideas, or even of comprehending any save the most elemental — men whose whole thinking is done in terms of emotion, and whose dominant emotion is dread of what they cannot understand…
The larger the mob, the harder the test.
As democracy is perfected, the office represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. We move toward a lofty ideal. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart’s desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.”
In effect, the Republican party no longer exist. It has metastasized into the cult of Trump who have yet again failed to learn the terrible consequences of slashing regulations, cutting taxes on the rich in the vain hope they might be rich someday and for the historic 100% failure that is Art Laffer’s supply-side economic theory. The descent into authoritarianism and fascism has finally been reached thanks to all of the efforts of Charles and David Koch and the rest of the crypto-nazis on the right who long to turn our republic into a feudalistic kakistocracy.
We will survive this but not without a lot of pain and suffering.
Mr. Mueller is about to teach Trump and Cohen why you can’t outrun the long arm of the law. Trump’s stupidity is going to make him the first president to land in prison.
